Pilates Reformer/Apparatus Groups by Appointment

Group Reformer/Apparatus sessions offer specialized lessons in an intimate setting. Students in each group are at compatible levels of fitness and understanding of the exercises. Because each group is limited in size (max 4), you'll get individualized attention with the energy of a group setting. For Pilates (equipment) groups, you'll practice the Pilates exercises using the Reformer, Tower, Ladder Barrel, and Chair.

PRE-REQUISITES
Students interested in joining an equipment group should schedule an Initial Session with one of our experienced instructors who will work with you to develop a program to best meet your individual needs and goals. We suggest our Welcome Package ($300 for 5 privates, 5 group sessions) as a great way to get started. If groups are an appropriate program for you, we generally require a minimum of 5 one-on-one Private Sessions prior to joining a group in order to give you optimum results and a thorough understanding of our work.

REGISTRATION
Group sessions are by appointment only.  Please call (303) 833-7353 to register for your spot. To further support your learning experience and development, we reserve your standing space in the group on an ongoing basis. You may join a wait list for any group that is full with standing appointments — we will contact you whenever a spot opens up. For Pre-Registering sessions, you can sign up to reserve your spot — the group will start once a minimum of 3 students sign up.

CANCELLATIONS
As with all scheduled appointments, please allow a minimum of 24 hours cancellation notice or there will be a full service charge.

History of Pilates

PILATES (pronounced Pi-lah-tees) - A Unique Exercise Program

Imagine an exercise program which:

  • Rewards you with the suppleness of a trained dancer.
  • Restores muscular balance to your body while improving your posture.
  • Helps heal muscular and soft tissue pain.
  • Builds overall strength to prevent further injury from occurring.
  • Uses your entire body.
  • Engages you, leaving you refreshed and alert with a presence of physical body, mind, and awareness.

Pilates can do all of this, and more.

WHO WAS JOSEPH PILATES?
Joseph Pilates was a German-born immigrant whose frail, sickly childhood inspired lifelong dedication to physical conditioning and positive body image. A native of Germany, he grew to become an accomplished skier, diver, gymnast, and boxer. While interned in England during World War I, for his German citizenship, Joseph became a nurse. His experiments in resistance using springs attached to a hospital bed, strengthened immobilized patients. Joseph's revolutionary discoveries led him to design the Mat exercises and the Reformer, which became the foundation of the Pilates Method.

Upon emigrating to the United States in 1926, Joseph and his wife, Clara Pilates, opened their studio Body Contrology on 8th Avenue in New York City. Their techniques encompassed over 500 corrective exercises utilizing control and proper form for total body-conditioning. There are no repetitive exercises. Joseph preferred fewer, more precise motions that engage the mind-body connection. Today, Pilates techniques are used by dance companies, Olympic and professional athletes, sports teams, and private fitness centers throughout the world.

CAN I USE PILATES?
Pilates is for everyone; young, old, athletic, sedentary, or those in physical therapy. Pilates is for individuals who want to improve their strength and flexibility without building bulk. Practiced regularly, Pilates aides in preventing muscle and soft tissue injury. Physical therapists, chiropractors, and orthopedists, embrace Pilates as a beneficial adjunct in the rehabilitation of patients.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT?
Pilates sessions are tailored to the needs of each student. Lessons are usually done one-on-one with a trainer, or in closely supervised small groups. Pilates uses the abdomen, lower back, and buttocks as a power center, enabling the rest of the body to move freely. A series of controlled exercises and specialized equipment create resistance for muscular exertion. Proper body alignment and correct breathing is the emphasis of the Pilates method.

DOES PILATES USE EQUIPMENT?
Yes! The primary equipment used in Pilates is the Reformer, a bed-like platform with a carriage that slides along tracks. The carriage may be moved by pushing against a bar or pulling on ropes with the arms or legs. Exercises are performed from a reclining, sitting, kneeling, standing, or piking position. Other areas of the body may be strengthened on additional equipment including the Cadillac, Chair, Barrel, and Mat.

A RANGE OF BENEFITS
Everyday activities such as sitting, standing, running, playing sports, dancing, or working out in a gym, strengthen some muscle groups; but may leave other muscle groups weaker and underdeveloped. Muscular imbalance may never be noticed as such, but it can eventually become a source of fatigue, discomfort, pain, and even immobility.

Pilates will aid in:

  • Building strength without "bulking up" - gain long, lean muscles and flexibility
  • Developing a strong core - flat abdominals and a strong back
  • Creating an evenly conditioned body and preventing sports injuries
  • Learning efficient patterns of motion
  • Being confident, safe, and challenged

"You will feel better in 10 sessions, look better in 20 sessions, and have a completely new body in 30 sessions."
- Joseph Pilates
